Punjabi Grand Luxury

Punjabi · Wedding
Two quite different invitations tend to be needed for a Sikh wedding: a restrained one for the Anand Karaj, and a loud one for everything around it. We make both, in the same artwork family, so they read as one wedding.
Gurmukhi is proofed by a Punjabi reader before delivery. The Ik Onkar is set as a single glyph in a face that renders it correctly, not as an image.
A good share of the Punjabi weddings we work on are NRI weddings — one family in India, one abroad, guests on three continents. A video invitation suits that reality: it crosses time zones on WhatsApp in seconds, needs no courier, and the Anand Karaj card can carry both the gurdwara’s local time and the time back home.

What a template farm cannot tell you
The card opens with ੴ (Ik Onkar), and many families follow it with ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ. The ceremony is ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ (Anand Karaj) — not "wedding ceremony", and not "pheras", which is a different rite.
Where the Anand Karaj is at a Gurdwara, the convention is to keep the ceremony card free of figures, dancing and alcohol references, and to invite the reception separately. We build that split into the design rather than asking you to cut things later.
The order runs roka, chunni chadhana, sagai, maiyan / haldi, chooda and kalire on the morning, sangeet and jaggo the night before, the Anand Karaj, doli, and the reception.
Send six to eight weeks ahead — Punjabi guest lists are large and frequently international. The jaggo and sangeet invitations often go to a younger, separate list and can be sent later, two to three weeks out.
Phulkari — counted darn stitch worked from the reverse of the cloth. Animating it stitch by stitch is accurate, not a flourish.
Chooda and kalire — the red-and-ivory bangles and the hanging gold ornaments. Instantly readable as "bride" to any Punjabi guest.
Dhol — sets the tempo. We cut to a live recording rather than a loop.
Ik Onkar — sacred, and treated as such: never animated playfully, never used as a decorative shape.
